Staying trim whilst pregnant
written by Steve Barrett, 1 mth ago
You often find in the summer months that you get what they call a slow news day, but today the BBC lead with the increasing problems of more women being obese before and during pregnancy. Everybody will have heard the claims that you need to 'eat for two' but the guidelines are really clear that 2000 cals a day is what a mother and unborn baby need to stay healthy and grow, that's the same figure as women who aren't pregnant or breastfeeding.
It also made the suggestion that women who have always exercised get put off by gym staff from doing the things that they enjoyed before they became pregnant - this may be due to the fear of the compensation culture or perhaps the fact that so many fitness staff are young males with no experience of pregnancy themselves, again the guidelines say that whilst you should modify the types of exercise you do keeping up your exercise will make the pregnancy easier, the birth easier and your recovery faster after the birth.
So, if you are considering becoming pregnant then the advice is the fitter you are before then the better the whole experience will be - so donut or kids, you decide.
